Today, as I was working, I discovered four books that I either wish to add to my own library or to give to love ones. I thought I would share them with you:

*"Jesus Shows Me How to Pray" by Gayle Lintz. This book is very simple and I think would be great for any child that is just learning how to pray.

*"The Parable of the Lily" by Liz Curtis Higgs. Young Maggie learns some important lessons that could belief children of all ages, 3-103.

*By authors, Dr. Kevin Leman (The New Birth Order) and Kevin Leman II, the book, "My Middle Child, There's No One Like You." I can't wait for my 2 year old niece, the middle child, to be able to enjoy this one. It is so beautifully written! This book is part of a series of three, the other two are: "My Youngest, There's No One Like You" and "My Firstborn, There's No One Like You." I will have to get all three of these for my youngest sister to give her children.

* And lastly in today's find: "The Little Old Man Who could Not Read" by Irma Simonton Black. I am crazy about this one!!!! It is about my passion that EVERY human being learns to read! The text copyright is 1968, I will probably have to eBay or Amazon for copies of this one?!?!

Happy Holidays and Keep On Reading,

Miss Jane

Miss Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05670526110884928487noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3257286051909349370.post-88882023211253024582008-11-23T10:55:00.002-05:002008-11-23T11:13:02.351-05:00O.K. After creating a pumpkin the students were ask to bring them in to be used at the school during the festival. One of the requests from the school was no cutting on your pumpkin to help preserve them. So thanks to Family Fun magazine we came up with this creation! First: Take old magazines and cut out facial parts. We then glued the parts to construction paper and trimmed around those. And then we got out the trusty ole' hot glue gun and glued the parts to the pumpkin. Next, I cut a hole in an old dress-up wig of my daughter's and put it over the stem. As you can see we went one step more and decorated a gourd as well and hot glued it to the top of the pumpkin! We had sooooooo much fun as a family creating our "two-headed friend." Time for me to add another fun book to the list: 10 FAT TURKEYS by Tony Johnston. This book makes kids and the young at heart giggle out loud. I first found this book @ Wal-mart 3 years ago and I have read/shared it with hundreds. And my 8 year son and niece love it! The picture to the left is definitely not turkeys, but Canadian geese that my son and I have been watching. Your local and school libraries should carry a variety of holiday books. At election time, "My Teacher for President" by Kay Winters is a very fun book. As are "The One Hundredth Day of School!" by Abby Klein and "Alabaster's Song" by Max Lucado just to name a few. Take your child to the local library and let them get their own library card and start checking out books today!

Keep on Reading,

Miss JaneMiss Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05670526110884928487noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3257286051909349370.post-41480878763023565172008-09-23T08:54:00.004-04:002008-10-16T20:04:07.549-04:00The Websites ListedThe following websites listed are GREAT!
http://www.education.com/; http://www.professorgarfield.org/;
http://www.scholastic.com/; http://www.pbs.org/; http://www.smokeybear.com/; www.seussville.com!
(We have used these at home and school.) If you enjoy the Hallmark movies based on her books then you will love the reading!!!!Miss Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05670526110884928487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3257286051909349370.post-57791242287597264252008-09-18T08:56:00.000-04:002008-09-18T09:06:39.732-04:00Why Read?The correct question is why not?! Reading is the foundation to ALL learning. If you can read then the skies the limit. When you read you can be transformed to another time or place. You can use your imagination and thoughts to be a king, queen, a pioneer, or the worlds fastest runner!!!!
But, there is also, reading the newspaper, reading directions to Friday night's ballgame and of course reading the menu at the hamburger joint.
So please, teach someone to read!Miss Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05670526110884928487noreply@blogger.com0
